There are a large number of Sheet Metal Parts in mechanical parts, and the efficient and accurate design of their molds is becoming more and more important under the requirements of modern manufacturing. The process and method of designing Sheet Metal parts and their molds by using general CAD/CAM software are discussed to improve efficiency and accuracy, and also lay a foundation for CNC machining.

There are a large number of sheet metal parts in mechanical parts, and the efficient and accurate design of their molds is becoming more and more important under the requirements of modern manufacturing. Some commonly used CAD/CAM softwares also provide efficient, convenient, accurate and fast means for the design of sheet metal parts and their stamping dies. Taking Pro/ENGINEER as an example, this paper discusses the process and method of stamping formed sheet metal parts and their molds. Figure 1 is a design flow chart, and Figure 2 is a sheet metal part drawing of a design example.

1 Design steps

(1) Firstly, the design structure and manufacturing process of the part are determined according to the geometry, mechanical function and manufacturing conditions of the part.

(2) If the part is curved or blanked, the part design can be completed directly with the Pro/E "part-sheet" module; if the part is a tensile structure (see Figure 2), you can use Pro/E first" The part-solid module is designed to mold the die (or or punch) of the drawing die, and then the Pro/E "part-sheet" module is used to design the basic structure of the part. The part of Figure 2 is designed with a circular plate, then The shape of the die of the stretched structure is copied into the part using the "FORM" command.

(3) Complete the design of the other parts of the part, as shown in the curling of the parts in Figure 2.

(4) Complete the expansion map.

(5) Complete the design of the drawing, punching and bending or other required molds

2 Design method

2.1 The design of the convex/concave structure of the tensile structure

Use Pro/E's "Part-Entity" module: [New New] / [Part Part] - [Solid Solid] to create a convex/concave graphic file and apply the corresponding commands to complete the design. Figure 3 shows the parts shown in Figure 2. Die.

2.2 Sheet metal part design

Use the Pro/E "Parts - Sheet Metal" module: [New New] / [Part Part] - [Sheet Metal Sheetmetal], create a sheet metal part graphic file, and apply the corresponding command to complete the design. The tensile structure must be completed with the "Form Form" command so that the structure can be expanded into a plane with the "Flat Form" command.

2.3.1 Parts without tensile structure

You can use the "Expand Unbend" command: Part Part Main Menu - [Feature Feature] / [Create Creat] - [Sheet Sheet Metal] - [Zhangping Unbeng], expand the part.

2.3.2 Parts with tensile structure

Depending on the position of each part of the part and the molding sequence, the "formed flattened Flatten Form" command can be used to expand the structure formed by the die drawing, and the structure generated by the bending using the "flattening Unbend" command.

When the structure stretched by the mold is developed by using the "flat forming Form" command, the shape and size of the developed piece are the shapes and sizes formed by the projection. In fact, the shape and size of the stretched part are formed according to the part. The area after the calculation is calculated, so it is necessary to calculate the expanded area according to the molded part. Using the measurement function of Pro/E software, you can easily and accurately obtain the surface area of the part: menu bar [Analysis] / [Measure], pop up the Measure dialog box, set the appropriate options in the dialog box, select the surface to be measured, ie The surface area of the part is available. You can also use the surface of the part to copy a neutral surface (Surface), using the area type (Type) in the Measure column: Area and Definition - Entity: Quilt option, quickly Measure the neutral layer area of the part. Based on the measured value of this area, the size of the part can be quickly determined.

Under normal circumstances, after the stretch forming, the mouth or the edge of the workpiece is not neat, and trimming is required to meet the design requirements of the part. Therefore, when calculating the size of the part blank, the trimming margin Δh must be added. As shown in Fig. 2, the neutral layer surface area of the bowl-shaped part is A=36538.3mm2, and the molded part has a broken diameter of 215.69, according to the part. The shape and size determine the trim margin to be 2mm, then the final blank diameter:

D=d+2×Δh=219.69mm

3 Conclusion

According to the steps and methods described above, using the modeling functions of the "Parts - Sheet Metal" and "Parts - Solid" modules of Pro/Engineer software, combined with the specific requirements of sheet metal parts and their mold design, can be completed quickly and accurately The design of the sheet metal part and its mold and the unfolding of the part blank, and then using the software "analysis / measurement" and other functions, can easily calculate the unfolded size of the part blank. This method is suitable for the design of various sheet metal parts and their molds. It is versatile and simple. Moreover, the parts and mold models designed with Pro/ENGINEER can also be used to generate NC programs during CNC machining.
