A flat sheet of metal does not look like much. Yet the box built from it has to guard boards wires and power parts for years. Smart Изготовление изделий из листового металла begins at the design stage long before a laser touches steel. The first decisions determine the quality of fit and the durability. This guide covers the six checks worth making first. Metal, thickness bends heat seals and finish all pull on each other. Read it before sending files to a shop. One missed detail can mean a second round of samples and nobody wants that bill.

Match Metal to the Environment

Start with where the box will live. A Корпус на заказ on a dry office shelf can be thin and light. Put the same box on a rooftop or a wash-down floor and it fails fast. Steel is very durable and cheap but needs to be coated. Stainless steel is not destroyed by moisture or chemicals. Aluminum has a lightweight property and it conducts heat. Moisture in the interior is where the galvanized sheet used for the barrier is used in the middle. This is the order of your needs for corrosion resistance. The pricey upfront buyer who takes only that into consideration may be making a mistake twice.

Thickness, Ribs, and Stiffness

Thicker sheet feels solid in your hand. It also costs more weighs more and fights the press brake. A drum-like wobbling effect is commonly known as oil canning and most small housings can handle this at 1.5 mm to 2 mm. Gauge span is also important. The stiffness can be added without any additional cost by shaping. There are some other ways to reinforce a panel without adding extra weight: a small flange at a rib or a folded edge. Flat paper flops but a rolled rim holds. Save the heavy plate for mounting rails that carry a power supply.

Bend Rules That Save Money

Metal will not fold into a razor corner. It needs a bend radius and a tight one can crack the surface. Steel often takes a radius near the sheet thickness. Aluminum prefers 1 ½ times the amount. When possible bend across the grain which will reduce the chances of splits. Avoid locating holes and slots along bend lines or they will become oval-shaped. Tolerances also accumulate subtly. Five parts each off by a hair can leave a door that rubs. Mark only the sizes that truly matter. Your shop will confirm exact limits.

Heat, Airflow, and EMI Control

Electronics generate heat and heat shortens their lives. Plan a vent prior to locking up the layout. With the low intake slots and high exhaust slots the warm air rises naturally. In dense builds a fan or a heat sink may be required. Aluminum is useful in this regard due to its high heat conductivity as compared to steel. Big openings cool well but weaken the panel and leak electrical noise. Small slot patterns or mesh balance both. The metal shell also gives a grounding path so keep paint off the contact spots. Skip that step and noise can creep into your signals.

Seals, Ports, and IP Ratings

Water comes through all cracks. If exposed to rain or hose spray request the IP rating, e.g. IP65. This requires even screw spacing and a continuous gasket path which ensures equal lid force distribution. A large amount of space between screws allows the seal to lift.  Cable holes are the usual weak point. Use sealed glands or grommets and cut ports for switches and connectors in the first design not after. Adding cutouts to a finished sample often means a restart. Thin lids flex with heat so stiffen big covers to keep the gasket tight.

Finish, Hardware, and Easy Service

Powder coat will provide a hard, uniform finish. Aluminum and brushed stainless do not require painting. Choose a finish early as this will add thickness. Tabs that slid in as raw metal may jam afterward. Mask grounding points before the parts go in the oven. Employ standard screws and pressed-in inserts for easy construction and maintenance by any shop. Fewer parts less leaks and quicker assembly. Add hinges or captive screws too. Someone will open this case at 2 a.m. in bad light so be kind to that person. Order a prototype first then open it ten times.

Заключение

A solid enclosure is a string of small sensible choices. Use metal thickness bends heat seals and finish all tug on each other. Change one and the rest shift. This is OK and hence early planning is beneficial. Minor investment of time smoother build. Talk to your fabricator before the drawing is final. Share your goals for Sheet Metal Fabrication ask for plain feedback and request a sample. A Custom Enclosure built this way tends to fit well last longer and cost less than the rushed version you first sketched.
